Company Overview

Website: https://www.ashurst.com/en/careers/students-and-graduates/australia/

Ashurst is a leading global law firm with a rich history spanning 200 years. We've established ourselves as a go-to adviser for corporates, financial institutions, and governments across all areas of the law – from finance and M&A to disputes and competition. With 32 offices across the world's leading financial and resource centres, we offer the reach of a truly global network combined with deep local market knowledge.

We're renowned for helping our clients navigate a complex, constantly evolving landscape, and we're at the forefront of the issues shaping industries today – whether that's energy transition, digital transformation, or cross-border transactions. Our teams regularly manage large, multi-jurisdictional deals, disputes, and projects, delivering outstanding outcomes for clients across the globe.

But here's the thing – our people are our greatest asset. We bring together lawyers of the highest calibre with the expertise, industry experience, and regional know-how to provide incisive, commercially minded advice. And we're always looking for the next generation to join us. We're not just after great lawyers – we're looking for curious, driven people who want to build a career that's anything but ordinary.

Application Process

Our application process is designed to get to know the real you. Here's what to expect:

Step 1 – Online Application. Submit your CV, academic transcript, and answer a few short answer questions through our careers portal. Tell us why Ashurst, and why law – but most importantly, tell us about you.

Step 2 – Online Assessment. You'll complete a short online assessment that helps us understand how you think, solve problems, and work with information.

Step 3 – Interview. If you progress, you'll be invited to interview. Depending on the office, this might be one round or two, and you will meet with a Partner, Lawyer and/or someone from People & Culture. This is a conversation, not an interrogation – we want to hear about your experiences, interests, and what drives you.

Step 5 – Offer. If it's a match, we'll be in touch with an offer. And yes, we'll be just as excited as you are.

Timelines vary by state and programme, so keep an eye on our website and social channels for key dates.

Application Hints and Tips

Do your homework. We don't expect you to know every detail of our latest transaction, but showing genuine interest in what we do – and why it excites you – goes a long way. Have a look at our recent work, our global reach, and the areas of law that spark your curiosity.

Be yourself. We're not looking for a template answer or a carbon copy of every other applicant. Your background, your perspective, and your story matter. Lean into what makes you different.

Keep it sharp. Whether it's your cover letter or an interview answer, clarity and conciseness win every time. Make your points with confidence and don't be afraid to show some personality.

Ask questions. An interview is a two-way street. Think about what you genuinely want to know about working at Ashurst and ask us. Thoughtful questions tell us a lot about how you think.

Proofread everything. Small details matter in law. A polished application tells us you care about the quality of your work.
