2026 Graduate Program - Process Engineer Graduate

About the Program 

The Whitehaven Graduate Program is a dynamic two-year rotational initiative that will immerse you in various teams, sites and business functions, giving you a well-rounded understanding and exposure of the company and the mining industry. By the end of the program, you’ll be fully equipped to thrive and make a lasting impact in your chosen career path.  

Our program will see you mentored by senior leaders, gaining invaluable coaching and guidance whilst obtaining practical skills through hands-on experience and formal training in the mining industry.   

The Graduate - Process Engineer role will be based in Blackwater.  As part of the program, you may have the opportunity to travel or rotate to our other operations located in the Gunnedah and Narrabri regions in NSW, or Daunia in QLD.

NSW  

  • Maules Creek Open Cut
  • Narrabri Underground
  • Vickery Open Cut
  • Tarrawonga Open Cut
  • Gunnedah Coal Handling Process Plant

QLD 

  • Blackwater Mine
  • Daunia Mine

The ideal applicant will be adaptable and open to rotating across our various sites, including opportunities in different states.

Variety 

No two days are the same as you gain a deep understanding of how a mine operates. You’ll have the opportunity to work in different parts of our business, across our underground mine and our open cut operations in both NSW and QLD. 

Relocation and Accommodation 

Our Graduate Program presents an exciting opportunity to relocate to the Blackwater region in which the mine operates. Whitehaven is here to support your transition by providing relocation assistance and camp accommodation for your first three months, after which graduates will be responsible for organising their housing arrangements. 

What You Can Offer 

We are looking for graduates who are adaptable, keen to learn, resilient and who want to build a rewarding career in mining.  It is essential that you resonate with our core values of safety, teamwork, respect, integrity, value and excellence.  

You will be required to have working rights in Australia (international student visas accepted), a current Australian Drivers Licence and you must be willing to relocate.  

We are seeking applications from recent or soon-to-be graduates who have completed their degree in the last two years.

For the role of a Graduate - Process Engineer, you will need a tertiary qualification that will likely be in one of the following disciplines:      

  • Process Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering 
  • Metallurgy / Minerals Processing

Next Steps 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete cognitive and psychometric assessments and a video interview, prior to progressing to an interview with the hiring manager. 

Successful candidates will be required to complete medical and background checks prior to offer.
