Graduate Consultant - Thread Consulting

About Thread Consulting

Thread Consulting is a boutique management consulting firm working primarily with public sector and non-government organisations. We are a remote workplace, using a variety of online tools to collaborate with our clients and to operate as a close-knit and supportive team.

Thread Consulting was established in July 2022 and continues to experience rapid growth and change, with an evolving client base driving us to mature and expand our services and offerings.

Thread Consulting’s Graduate Program

Thread Consulting university graduates join us for a full-time graduate program of 12-18 months.

This is an opportunity to develop your skills by working closely with experienced Partners, to deepen your understanding of organisational design and change in the Australian government and non-profit sectors, and to build your networks by engaging directly with clients.

The program will provide formal training and accreditation in human resources and project management as well as structured professional development and mentoring, all grounded in real-world projects where you will own deliverables for Thread clients.

What the Graduate Consultant does

Every day is different in this job, depending on what is needed for current clients.

Generally, you will be responsible for project management and supporting a wide range of client engagements by collecting and organising information, preparing first cut analysis and helping prepare for key project milestones.

Your tasks will include information analysis, such as processing consultation responses, creation of glossaries, and desktop research. You will attend client meetings and consultation sessions, using various forms of videoconferencing, listening for solutions and sharing presentation material. As you become more experienced, you will directly manage some engagement with clients.

You will use our established templates to manage and track meetings and documents, and to coordinate the flow of information between us and our clients. When you see opportunities to improve our tools and processes you will take ownership of changes. You will also take the lead on sub-projects and processes as your familiarity with the business grows, delegating to and supporting Thread’s casual Junior Consultants.

Work is largely task-driven, so if you are getting the job done we are flexible about the hours you log on. Some availability during business hours may be required by client needs.

Access to a private and secure work area with reliable Wi-Fi where you can attend video meetings uninterrupted is essential. If you do not have access to a reliable laptop and monitor one can be provided for your use, for work purposes only.

Key responsibilities

Problem solving
You partner with clients to thoroughly understand problems, generate insights and options, and collaboratively find solutions or recommendations for improvement.

Research & analysis
You conduct research, surveys and interviews using different qualitative and quantitative techniques, learning new techniques for research and analysis as needed.

Advice
You provide well-founded draft advice on a broad range of policy, strategy and operational issues for clients, seeking external resources to develop and test your recommendations where needed.

Relationships
You quickly form excellent relationships with clients, developing the trust to understand and manage problems and the communication to build shared understanding. You can lead the management of relationships at NSW Government graded level Senior Project Officer and below.

Organisation
You are excellent at organising your work products, scheduling your time and managing your own projects as well as supporting project teams; all while fitting into the client’s way of working.
