Portland South Primary School is dedicated to providing explicit, evidence-based teaching to ensure all learners receive systematic instruction, particularly in literacy and numeracy. Student wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. We embrace The Resilience Project approach to teaching resilience through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. This approach develops student understanding, strategies and skills that support a positive sense of self, promote respectful relationships, and build their capacity to recognise and manage their own emotions.
Our school enjoys expansive grounds with a variety of well-resourced learning spaces, including modern technology, to support our commitment to teaching and learning for the 21st Century. Specialist teaching is available for PE, Art, STEM, Music and Gunditjmara Culture & Language Program, which enriches the curriculum of the school.
Portland South Primary School has a current enrolment of 142 students. The 2025 staffing profile consists of 9.7 equivalent fulltime teaching staff and seven Education Support staff.
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated capacity to respond to student learning needs.
SC2 Demonstrated capacity to implement high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning. Demonstrated capacity to use data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, wellbeing and engagement.
